the story behind the coffee

Mabrook Nashwan began growing coffee when he was very young, helping his father on the family farm. He taught him everything from cultivation to planting and picking, and when his father passed away 12 years ago, he took over the farm, giving it the same attention and love as his father once did.
The farm produces qat and grain, although he removed many qat trees and replaced them with coffee some time ago, eager to increase his coffee production and increase his farm. He now has 900 coffee trees. Mabrook has four sons, who he’s keen to follow in his footsteps, teaching them how to produce the best Yemeni coffee. It is this that motivates and encourages him to keep improving.

the region of Hayma Kharijiya

Aljidan is a village in the region of Hayma Kharjiya, on the west side of Sana’a City, where coffee has been growing for over 400 years. Out of around 50 coffee farming families in Aljidan, 34 work with Qima Coffee. The largest farm is 44m2, whilst the smallest is just 2.2m2. The village is characterised by its hot yet rainy summers and bitterly cold winters. Aside from growing coffee, farming families here also grow vegetables, corn and qat.
